Water supply to the Tarkwa township has been forced to a halt as Ghana Water Company Limited has announced a shutdown of their treatment plant.

Press statement by the GWCL on the matter of the shutdown of the Bonsa Headwork

The Bonsa Headworks according to the company supplies portable water to about 75% of the Tarkwa township and some environs.

In a press statement dated January 2nd, this decision has become necessary due activities of Galamsey in the Bonsa River.

“We have tried all that we could but to no avail, hence the shutdown” the statement said.

Meanwhile the situation is being monitored for treatment to commence when the water gets in good shape to be treated.
