Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
In the latest list of appointments released on Saturday 18th January 2025, Prof. Klutse is named together with other high profiled personalities like Sammy Gyamfi, Hon. Edward Bawa and Mr. Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe who are headed for Precius Minerals Mining Company (PMMC), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and National Petroleum Authority (NPA) respectively.

In an appreciation post, Prof. Klutse thanked President Mahama for the honour done her with the appointment. Describing the new role as a great responsibility, she acknowledged this as a call to deal with some of Ghana’s pressing environmental issues.
“It is both an honor and a great responsibility to serve our nation at a time when environmental issues are so pressing. From addressing air quality concerns to tackling the impacts of climate change and improving waste management systems, Ghana faces significant challenges” she said while indicating her readiness to work with stakeholders in the spectrum to reach results that transcend generations.
“I am committed to working closely with all stakeholders to find practical solutions that ensure a healthier and more sustainable future for our country. Together, we can make a real difference for generations to come”
Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse is currently the head of the Department of Physics at the University of Ghana and Vice-Chair of the Working Group for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). A known member of the ruling National Democratic Congress, her foray in the politics has seen her contest in the NDC primaries for the Abora Asebu Kwamankese seat as parliamentary candidate in 2019 and 2023. She is also climate change researcher, published academic author and a philanthropist.
Her appointment is the first after the Parliament passed the Environmental Protection Bill 2024 to change the status of the EPA from an Agency to an Authority. When finalized and her position made substantive, she will become the it’s first head after the redesignation.
